Thoughts on fingers

Hello :)

今回、「 fingers 」（指）という新しい作品を追加しました。

I have recently added a new illustration "fingers".

みなさんは、指をちゃんと見たことがありますか？みなさんの指はどんなふうに見えますか？

Have you had a close look at your fingers? How do they look?

先日、通勤中の電車で仕事をしていたんですが、パソコンの充電が切れたのでやりたかったことができませんでした。残り４０分をどう過ごそうか５分くらい考えたんですが、結局諦めて。そしてパソコンを閉じてその上に手を置きました。開いたり閉じたり、何となく自分の手がどんなふうに形を変えるか観察していました。正直言って、こんなに手（生まれてからずっと自分にあったもの）が興味深いものだとは今まで思ったことなかったです。どれだけ私が退屈だったかおわかりいただけるとおもいます。笑

The other day I was working on something on train during my commute, but as my laptop's battery died I couldn't do anything I wanted to do. After like 5 mins of thinking what to do for the rest of 40 mins, I finally gave up. So I closed my dead laptop and put my hands on it. I opened and closed them, observing how it can change its shapes. To be honest, I had never thought hands (which are attached to me since I was born) could have interested me that much. ...You can imagine how bored I was.

そしてさらに私の興味をひいたのは指でした。人差し指といっても、右と左とでは違います。私の右手中指と薬指はまっすぐではありません。形が歪んでいて、ちょっと見た目がよくありません。これは昔高校の吹奏楽部で毎日コントラバスを弾いていたからなんですが。同じように、左手小指は右のよりちょっとマッチョなんです。これもコントラバスで。こんな風に、私の指の形が私の過去を語ります。

Then what interested me even more was fingers. Even just the index fingers - they are different right to left. My right middle and ring fingers are not straight - the shape is distorted and kind of ugly. This is because I used to play the string bass every day in a high school brass band club. Likewise, my left little finger looks a bit more macho than the right one thanks to the string bass. These fingers can tell stories of my past by their shape.

私の手、指、爪の形は父親ゆずりです。自分の体の一部と他のひとのものにある共通点を見つけるのって面白いと思います。それぞれの指に個性があって、それは親から影響を受けていたり、ゆずり受けたものだったりするんですね。私自身がそうであるように。

Shape of my hands, fingers and nails look similar to my dad's - it's interesting to see similarities between parts of my body and that of others. It seems that each of my finger has a character in it which are influenced by / inhered from my parents, just like I do.

指に指輪を付ける。まるでその小さな人たちに服を着せるように。爪を磨いたり、それに色を着けたりする。まるで化粧するかのように。自分のお気に入りの指や嫌いな指がある人もいるでしょう。まるで人の好き嫌いのように。まるで手に１０人乗せてるみたい。こう考えるうちに、ちょっと自分の指って不気味だなあなんて思えてきませんか？

You wear rings on your fingers as if you are dressing up those little people. You polish and paint your nails like you put a makeup on them. Some people may have their favourite fingers, and others may dislike one particular finger - like you like and dislike people. It's almost like you have 10 individuals on your hands. Now you started to feel your fingers a bit creepy, didn't you?

もう一度よく指を見て観察してみてください。彼らが何か語りかけてくるかもしれもせんよ ;)

Have a look at your fingers again, and observe them. They may begin to talk some stories ;)
