Drawing in Museums - Ashmolean

無性に何か描きたいな～と思うとき、Pinterest や Google でお題を探して描いたりするんですが、ふとスクリーンを通してではなく実物を見ながら描きたいなと思い、週末オクスフォードにあるアシュモリアン博物館に行ってきました！

Whenever I feel like drawing something, I usually look for subjects on Pinterest or Google. But as this time I wanted to draw actual object that sits in front of me, not the ones in the screen, I went to Ashmolean Museum in Oxford last weekend!

イギリスの博物館や美術館の良いところは、入場料が要らないというところですね。（ただし、期間限定のエキシビション等はお金がかかりますが、会員割引等あります。）暇な時やボーっとしたい時はミュージアムをうろうろできますし。床に座って熱心に彫刻をデッサンしている美術生、椅子やイーゼル持参で絵画の絵画を描くおばあさん・・・こういう環境があるので自分もミュージアムでは気軽に絵が描けるんです。ありがたい。

The good thing about museums in the UK is that they are FREE. (For the temporary exhibitions, you need to pay but you can also get some discount if you have membership of the museum.) Even when you just want to kill your time, or want to wander around with empty mind, you can just do them there. Art students concentrating on drawing sculptures, or a lady doing oil painting with easel and chair she brought by herself... thanks to such environment, I can also indulge in sketching. I really appreciate it.

電車が途中で故障してバスに乗り換えたりオクスフォードで済ませる用事もあったりして結果長い時間いられなかったので、今回描いたのは３つだけ。

Since the train had broken down and had something to do before I went to the museum, I couldn't stay there too long. So I just drew three things:

ひとつ目は、たしか、１階（ＧＦ）の奥で見つけました。展示室の奥にあるショーケースのまた端の方にロイヤルブルーのような深い青の器があって、ふと目に止まったんですが、覗き込むと二人の男女が横たわっていてとても美しかったです。彼らの頭の方にあった装飾も綺麗。

I think it was at the back of the room on ground floor. There was a dish painted in royal blue in a case at the back of exhibition room and it attracted me at a glance. Looking into it, there were a man and a woman lying down, which was very beautiful. The decorations around their heads were just gorgeous!

ふたつ目は、２階（１Ｆ）のセラミックの置物コーナーで見つけたました。火照った頬を赤やピンクの丸で塗ってあるものが多くて可愛い。いかにもという感じの貴族の坊っちゃんがマントを翻して堂々と立っているのがまたイイ・・・

I found this one in the Ceramic section on the first floor. The blushing cheeks of the ceramic dolls were painted with red or pink circles and they were so cute. A typical nobleman confidently standing with the cape on was also cute.

みっつ目は、貴族の坊っちゃんの近くのショーケースにいたポットを持ったおそらく農家の女性。この置物も、頬が火照っていて、何と言っても人差し指を口に当てているポージングが個性的で好きでした。膨よかな下腹の曲線が個人的にとても好きでした。

The third one is a farmer with a pot, that I found near the nobleman. This one also has blushing cheeks but especially this pose, her finger touching her mouth and looking somewhere thinking, I found it unique. I liked the winding line of her ample figure too.

今回使ったのはA5サイズくらいのノートと青のボールペンだったんですが、消せなくて線に迷った時少し困ったので、次行くときは鉛筆持っていこうと思います。

This time I used an A5 size notebook and a blue pen, but it was a bit inconvenient for sketch as I couldn't erase the lines. So I will bring some pencils with me next time.
