Hello, everyone!

Day 13: Osaka

On the 13th day of Japan Trip, we went on a day trip to Osaka!

It took us approx. 1 hour to get there from Kyoto. It’s “the second largest” city in Japan, but it was a proper metropolitan city. It’s always a hassle to use transportation in unfamiliar places. We managed to get to Dotonbori, so we had a break in Starbucks. FYI, you need your receipt when you want to use the toilet! This is important!

Looking at the iconic advert of Glico and the huge crab of Kani Doraku, I was enjoying the very Osaka atmosphere. On the other hand, my Spanish family was like ?? so I had to explain, like this is what Osaka is famous for! :D It’s true that when I brought my Spanish friends last year, it didn’t ring a bell for them either… The view is not really recognised by foreign tourists as an iconic thing.

Though we just walked around outside for a couple of hours, it was still 1pm or so and we had consumed a lot of energy. Looking for a cooler place to have a break, we went to Takashimaya (a department store). They offer a lot of good stuff as one of the biggest department stores in Japan, and a huge restaurant area that goes on like three stories. We enjoyed a typical Osaka dish called Okonomiyaki in one of their restaurants.

The dishes filled our stomach (some of us couldn’t even finish all), but we had to give up on having Osaka street food called Takoyaki. There was a big MUJI just near Takashimaya, so we went shopping and headed back to Kyoto.

It is cruelly hot in Osaka during summer, so personally, it would have been best to start a day in the afternoon, have dinner there and come back. After sunsets, the city gets even more glittery with full of neons and louder with more people, which make the typical Osaka.
